About Me

Clare Anvar BSc (Hons), MSc

Clare Anvar

After qualifying with a City & Guilds in Body Therapies, my professional journey into clinical work began in 2004, when I combined hands-on clinical practice with eight years of formal academic study. I first completed an FdSc in Complementary Approaches to Health at Thames Valley University, before being awarded a University of Westminster Scholarship to undertake a BSc (Hons) in Health Sciences: Remedial Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy. During this time, I also gained invaluable experience working as a complementary therapist in Cancer Services at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), which established my interest in oncology-related lymphatic care. I then went on to complete a Master’s degree in Complementary Medicine (MSc), further strengthening my ability to bridge clinical practice with contributing to the growing body of evidence-based research in lymphology.

Alongside my private practice, I then worked for Horder Healthcare in Tunbridge Wells for three years, as a remedial massage therapist,  looking after post-surgical orthopaedic patients with myofascial and lymphatic techniques.

To deepen my expertise, I undertook advanced courses in all schools of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) recognised for accreditation by MLDUK—the Vodder Schule, Foeldi, Casley Smith, and fluoroscopy-guided techniques, as well as training in Clinical Lymphoedema Management. This specialist knowledge allows me to deliver highly targeted, effective treatments, tailored to the needs of very complex patients; including palliative and end of life care.

A central part of my career has been sharing knowledge with both colleagues and patients. I regularly present at national and international conferences, including Wound Care Today, where I spoke on lymphatic health and the management of chronic oedema; the MLDuk National Conference, where I took a workshop on Lymphascial taping for post-surgical recovery, and the European Lymphology Society, where I presented on the complexities of lipoedema and its impact on quality of life.

I also contribute to academic discussions through abstract posters and presentations, such as ‘A case series on breast-cancer-related lymphoedema induced by aromatase inhibitor therapy,’ presented at the International Lymphoedema Framework (ILF) Conference, Nottingham and ‘Lipoedema as a disease of multisystem dysregulation’ presented at the International Lymphoedema Foundation in Niagara Falls, as well as ‘Kinesiology taping to reduce the risk of skin necrosis in Post Liposuction Patients’ delivered at the World Lipedema Alliance conference in Berlin. These opportunities have allowed me to engage with surgeons, clinicians and researchers, advancing the understanding of lymphatic health and its wider connections to endocrine, oncological, and systemic wellbeing.

Since 2023, I have served as Clinical Therapy Advisor to Lipoedema UK, where I participate in monthly webinars for patients to ask direct questions about their own lipoedema. I educate about, research, and raise awareness for a condition that remains under-recognised, misdiagnosed and often misunderstood.

My philosophy of care is to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives: relieving pain, restoring function and helping clients live with greater comfort and confidence. The best treatment outcomes are achieved when clinical expertise is delivered with empathy. Every person I meet brings a unique story, and my role is not only to apply technical skill, but also to listen, support, and empower. Whether I am fitting compression garments, facilitating recovery after surgery, maintaining clients through gruelling cancer treatments or managing long-term lymphoedema, my aim is always to combine science, skill, and sensitivity in equal measure.

If you think I can help you understand your symptoms or manage your rare condition, give me a ring, consultations are free with no obligation, I look forward to hearing from you
